Rangers Introduce New Head Coach!
Jul 27, 2014, 1:14 pm

NEWS: Curtis Giebelhaus has stepped down from his head coaching position with the hockey club as he prepares for his first baby! The entire club thanks Curtis for all the hard work and dedication he has put in over the years. Thank you Curtis!

The new head coach of the Rangers for the upcoming season will be Derek Sweet-Coulter!

Derek grew up in Victoria, British Columbia where he played the majority of his minor hockey. At the age of 15 he attended Notre Dame College in Wilcox, Saskatchewan for two years. He began his junior hockey at the age of 17 and enjoyed 5 seasons spending time in the BCHL, AJHL, SJHL, and WHL, finishing his career in the Heritage Junior Hockey League. Afterwards, Derek played just down the road from Vegreville for 3 seasons with the Two Hills Longhorns, winning a championship there in 2007.

Derek has been a head coach at the Junior B level for 7 seasons now. He has been in the CJHL for the past 5 seasons with the Edmonton Mustangs and Strathcona Bruins. As head coach for the Edmonton Mustangs the past 2 years, Derek's teams finished with a 39-32-5 regular season record and went 4-3 in playoffs, losing out last year in the deciding game in the best of 5 series.

The Rangers are very excited to have Derek joining the club, leading them into the rugged waters of the NEAJBHL!
